Chantler Family History
Like most people in the world, I am interested in understanding my roots. I have been trying to build a family tree which is based on verified information. I left it too late to check with my father all of the more recent names I have; he died in 1994.
Some of my information comes from a cousin who was trying to build a tree but seems to have given up when it got just a tiny bit difficult. Some of my information I have collected myself from St Catherine's House, London where registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths from 1837 onwards are held. Other information has been gleaned from Parish records in Kent but I have still got a lot to follow up.
I am using a software package called Family Historian to store and sort my data. This is splendid for the job. We owe a great debt of gratitude to the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints (the Mormons). They have a giant database at Salt Lake City and I visited it in 1995 and gathered some of their data.
It seems that this particular Chantler line starts in Kent in the South-east of England. I was born in Ashford and lived near Headcorn until 1969. Now I live in the wilds of Northamptonshire. So far I can trace a direct male line to 1557.
If you are a Chantler and may be related to me please look at the family tree or the descendency chart (which is in dire need of an update). If you have any useful information to add, or can confirm or refute anything therein, please contact me: [email protected] .
